2010 Gold Eagle Bullion Sales Reach 151,500

Jul 9, 2010

During the month of June, the United States Mint sold 151,500 ounces of American Gold Eagle bullion coins. This is the third month this year that sales have exceeded the 100,000 ounce level.

The month also marked the start of sales for the fractional 2010 Gold Eagle bullion coins. The coins were first available to authorized purchasers on June 10, 2010. The fractional weights included one-half ounce, one-quarter ounce, and one-tenth ounce sizes.

The monthly 2010 Gold Eagle sales included 97,000 of the one 0unce coins, 31,000 of the one-half ounce coins, 44,000 of the one-quarter ounce coins, and 280,000 of the one-tenth ounce coins. The newly available fractional weight coins contributed more 54,500 ounces of gold bullion sales.

Interestingly, the sales of the one-tenth ounce coins have already exceeded the total sales achieved in the prior year. For 2009, the fractional weight Gold Eagles were only available briefly in December.

For the year to date, the United States Mint has now achieved American Gold Eagle bullion sales of 576,000 ounces. The annual total for 2009 had reached 1,425,000 ounces.
