2010 Fractional American Gold Eagles

Jun 8, 2010

The US Mint recently notified their authorized purchasers via memorandum that the 2010 Fractional Gold Eagles will be available for ordering on June 10, 2010. This initial ordering date comes nearly six months earlier than the prior year.

The fractional weight coins will come in one-half ounce, one-quarter ounce, and one-tenth ounce size. Each size carries a different legal tender face value of $25, $10, and $5 for each weight, respectively. These smaller sized coins provide more flexible investment options that the one ounce coins, which cost more than $1,300 each.

The 2009 Fractional Gold Eagles were very popular sellers for the US Mint. They were offered starting on December 3, 2009 and only remained available for three weeks. During this time, sales of 270,000 one-tenth ounce coins, 110,000 one-quarter ounce coins, and 110,000 one-half ounce coins were sold.

For this year’s offering, the US Mint will be sales under their standard allocation process, which will ration the available supply amongst authorized purchasers.
