2010 American Gold Eagle

The American Gold Eagle has been issued by the US Mint since 1986. The coins have been available in four different denominations, which contain their stated weight in gold. The weight, content, and purity are guaranteed by the United States government. The 2010 Gold Eagles represent the latest release in the ongoing series.

The continued high demand for precious metals has caused some recent issues for Gold Eagles. The bullion coins have been subject to a number of sales suspensions and an allocation program, which rations the coins available. Collectible proof and uncirculated versions of the coin, which are typically issued each year, were canceled for 2009.

Suggesting that these problems are not yet over, the release date for 2010 American Gold Eagles was delayed until January 19, 2010. Fractional weight versions of the coin were delayed until even later in the year on June 10, 2010.

The 2010 Proof Gold Eagles were released on October 7, 2010. The popular collector offerings had been canceled in the prior year, so the appearance of the product was met with a great deal of pent up collector demand. The proof coins were available across the four standard weights with a four coin set also available.
